Personal Background

Born and raised in the historic city of Charleston, SC, JP Sperro embarked on a career as a Physician Assistant, earning his undergraduate degrees from Harding University and his graduate degree from The Medical University of South Carolina. Life brought him to Asheville, NC, where he began working for Carolina Hand Surgery. It was here that fate introduced him to master artist Benjamin Long IV, who he later had the honor of serving as an apprentice.

Artistic Training

In 2005, JP enrolled in Benjamin Long IV's school of fine art, "The Fine Arts League of the Carolinas." Here, he spent three intensive years cultivating his skills in classical drawing and painting. In September 2008, he became the apprentice of Maestro Long, whose own artistic lineage traced back to a Renaissance master. For five transformative years, JP honed his skills, refining his craft in oils, fresco, drawing, and painting within Maestro Long's studio

Artistic Philosophy

JP Sperro's artistry is rooted in the union of vision and skill. He believes that many carry visions, yet lack the skill to bring these into reality. Others possess exceptional talent but lack a distinct voice within their art. When both vision and talent intersect, it results in something truly moving - it becomes art. This guiding philosophy is the cornerstone of every Sperro creation.

Aspirations and
Current Work

In 2013, JP opened his own studio, the Imaginarium of JP Sullivan & Co, in Asheville's River Arts District. His artistic focus spans portraits, still-life, landscapes, and narrative figure art, encapsulating the richness and diversity of life. His aspiration is to create public art – be it in sculpture, painting, drawing, or frescos – that carries forward the tradition of the old masters.

JP's pursuit of excellence is continuous, as he constantly challenges himself to elevate his craft. Each new project is an opportunity to create something truly special, a testament to his commitment to the artistic journey.

Art for JP Sperro is not merely an occupation but a passion, a calling, a life lived in the pursuit of beauty and expression. Through Sperro Art, he invites you to partake in this journey, to witness the transformation of vision and skill into masterpieces that touch the soul.
